About Live by the Elements
A nature-based space for outdoor learning, personal growth, and real-life lessons through Foundation, Resilience, Discipline, and Clarity.
Live by the Elements was created from a simple realization: the more time we spend in nature, the more we learn about ourselves. This space exists to help people slow down, reconnect, and find clarity through the natural forces that shape life itself.
Hi, I’m Kait
I’m Kait—founder of Live by the Elements, outdoor enthusiast, and lifelong student of the lessons nature teaches through experience. For most of my life, I’ve been building, creating, leading, and figuring things out as I went. I’ve worked in operations, customer service, sales, business ownership, and creative roles. Each experience taught me something valuable, but no matter where life took me, I always found myself returning to the outdoors.Whether hiking a trail, paddling a quiet river, or sitting beside a campfire, nature has always been where things make sense again. Out there, distractions fade. Problems become simpler. What matters becomes clearer.

The Shift
For years, I was focused on building a life and a business. Like many people, I became so busy taking care of responsibilities that I stopped paying attention to myself.
I've always been petite—the smallest person in the room, the girl who could still squeeze into a high chair long after everyone else had outgrown them. But somewhere along the way, things started to change. I was drinking multiple Red Bulls a day just to keep up. I was smoking nearly a pack of cigarettes every day. I couldn't remember the last time I had gone kayaking, explored a trail, or simply gone for a walk for the sake of moving my body.
I became comfortable being busy. So comfortable that I nearly forgot what it felt like to slow down, smile, laugh, and truly enjoy life.
The weight didn't appear overnight. It happened gradually, one choice, one habit, one busy season at a time.
Then came a family photo.
I remember looking at that picture and feeling shocked. Not because of the number on a scale. Because I could see how disconnected I had become from the person I wanted to be.
That moment became a turning point.
I made a decision. Not to overhaul my entire life overnight. Just to take the first step.
Move More. Exercise. Get Outside. Become Active Again.
Little by little, those small decisions began to add up.
I traded Red Bull for water. I traded cigarettes for walks. I traded "someday" for today. One decision became another. A walk became a routine. A routine became a lifestyle. Over time, I quit smoking, lost over 40 pounds, and began reconnecting with the version of myself I thought I had lost. But the biggest change wasn't physical. It was realizing that I felt present again. I was spending time outdoors. I was moving with purpose. I was paying attention. I was becoming the person I wanted to be.
What surprised me was that the lessons helping me rebuild my life weren't coming from books or motivational speeches. They were coming from nature.
The Foundation of Earth. The Resilience of Water. The Discipline of Fire. The Clarity of Wind.
Those lessons became the foundation of Live by the Elements.
This site exists because I believe nature can do more than help us escape life for a while. It can help us reconnect with ourselves. It can challenge us. It can teach us. And if we're paying attention, it can help us become who we're meant to be.
Why Live by the Elements Exists
Nature doesn't just provide a place to escape. It provides a place to learn. Live by the Elements was created to translate the lessons found outdoors into practical lessons for everyday life. The Element Framework uses Foundation, Resilience, Discipline, and Clarity as lenses for understanding resilience, discipline, adaptability, clarity, and personal growth. My goal isn't to tell people how to live. It's to encourage them to step outside, pay attention, and discover what nature can teach.

DISCIPLINE

CLARITY

Where to Start
You don’t need to begin perfectly. Start with where you are. Overwhelmed? Begin with Foundation. Emotionally drained? Begin with Resilience. Unmotivated? Begin with Discipline. Mentally cluttered? Begin with Clarity. The gap between where you are and where you want to be starts with one intentional step.
